Creative Financing Insights for Commercial Bankers
Something has been on my mind for years, and I’ve finally decided to do something about it.
In 27 years of running Asset Commercial Credit™, I’ve had thousands of conversations with commercial bankers — underwriters, business developers, account managers, credit officers, CEOs of community banks. Good people who care deeply about their small business clients. And in nearly every one of those conversations, I’ve noticed the same thing: we’re solving different parts of the same problem, and we almost never talk about it.
You decline a borrower. They find their way to us. We fund them, stabilize them, and eventually they come back to you as a stronger borrower. And nobody in that sequence — not you, not us, not the client — had a complete picture of the journey. The client felt abandoned by the banking system. You lost a relationship. We funded a client without knowing where they were trying to go.
That’s the gap The Bridge is designed to close.
Every month, I’m going to write you a letter. Not a rate sheet. Not a product announcement. A letter — with a story from the field, a lesson from three decades of small business finance, and a perspective I hope makes your work with clients a little more complete.
Some months I’ll tell you about a client type that surprised me. Some months I’ll talk about the mechanics of factoring and when it fits — and when it doesn’t. Some months I’ll be honest about the mistakes I’ve made and what they taught me. And some months I’ll simply make the case that the best outcome for a small business owner is almost always the one where their banker and their factor are working in the same direction.
Who This Is For
If you’re a commercial loan underwriter, a business development officer, an account manager, a Chief Credit Officer, or a community bank CEO focused on the small business market — this newsletter is for you. You don’t need to know anything about factoring to find it useful. You just need to care about what happens to small business clients when the answer is no.
One ask before we start: if a story in these pages reminds you of a client — current, former, or declined — pick up the phone. Not to sell them on factoring. Just to ask how they’re doing. That call, in my experience, is where the best banking relationships are rebuilt.
A Little About Asset Commercial Credit™
We’ve been in Sacramento and Rocklin, California since 1998. We hold a California Finance Lender and Broker license — number 607-1896 — active since 2003 with no complaints filed. We do invoice factoring and accounts receivable financing for small and mid-size businesses nationwide. No minimum volume requirements. No long-term contract lock-ins. We give every client a transparent written proposal before a single document is signed. We’ve been doing it that way for 27 years.
We’re not the biggest factor in the country. We’re the one that picks up the phone, does the right thing, and treats your referrals the way you’d want to be treated yourself.
Welcome to The Bridge. I’m glad you’re here.
Warm regards,
Shaun Rovai
